I have enjoyed art and creativity from a very young age. My mother remembers me doodling biro drawings of people at the beach or in town. To this day I am creative albeit with certain challenges.
As

a naturally creative person I have attended St Central Martins Art College where I have studied ceramics and have studied Fine Art at South Essex College, plus an Access to Art and Design Course. I also worked there in the Registry Department. I had plans to train to be an art teacher and us my artistic talent as a pathway to a new career, but this was, unfortunately interrupted by a sudden loss of vision.
This led me to be diagnosed with glaucoma, a hereditary disease, which degenerative and affects the optic nerve. Up until 2010 my glaucoma was stable and managed with eye drops and I could see well with glasses or contact lenses. More recently my eyesight has deteriorated and continues to do so. I now have a Guide Dog Polly as although not completely blind am entitled to have one, to help me stay safe and mobile, as I am now registered severely sight impaired.
My art has changed gradually since losing my eyesight and where once I could create and give attention to fine detail in my work, I now create more abstract work with sponges rather than brushes. I work in layers and build these up in different colours to give depth to my work.
Since losing my eyesight I have not only continued to puruse my artistic talent but have been lucky enough to attend The Royal College for the Blind in Hereford, through my local Job Centre and attained a qualification : NVQ Award in Business and Administration. I have also done volunteer work for the Royal College for the Blind in London, worked for Family Lives as inbound call centre operative helping people with their family problems and have just finished a work contract with LOOK as a Project Assistant, a charity for blind and visually impaired children. I have now started to write poetry as a creative outlet and continue with some photography and have a Blog page on WordPress at RosyProse with my poetry, art, photography, thoughts and favourate quotes. I have just applied to the Open College of Arts to do a Creative Writing Degree course
